Session 4 β’ β± about 60 minutes β’ Solo Β· self-led
Record & perform with the SP-404 MKII
Put a recorder and an effects box at the end of the chain.
- Digitakt II
- SP-404 MKII
Do this first: 3. Plug in the MicroFreak β a first synth voice
The goal this session
Record a two-minute live jam into the SP-404, add one performance effect, and resample a happy accident.
What we need on the desk
This session is a draft outline. The full step-by-step write-up comes next. Hereβs the plan.
New SP-404 routing and FX steps are spelled out; everything upstream of it is recall-only by now.
The idea
The SP-404 has exactly three jobs here β and only three. It is not a second brain to learn today; itβs the box that captures and colors what the Digitakt and MicroFreak are already doing.
- Record the output of the setup.
- Add a performance effect (vinyl sim, reverb, delayβ¦).
- Resample the happy accidents.
Planned steps
- Wire the chain. Digitakt MAIN OUT β SP-404 LINE IN β headphones/monitors.
- Set a clean level. Get the input as loud as possible without the meter hitting the red.
- Record a 2-minute jam. Play the loop live β mute and unmute Digitakt tracks, tweak the MicroFreak. No editing, no undo. Just perform.
- Add one Bus FX and play the take again with the effect on the master.
- Resample 10 seconds of the best moment into a new pad, as the seed for something fresh later.
What weβll have
A recorded two-minute jam plus one short resampled snippet β proof that a performance can be captured with no computer in sight.

- How to set a clean input level (avoiding clipping)
- How to record a live take with no editing
- How to add a performance effect and resample the result
